3.7 minimum. But thats just an average. there are some kids who had a 3.4-3.6 but did a lot of extra curricular activities and got in. its not all about gpa. dont forget sat’s, sports/school activities (those schools love community service and stuff like that)
I am a junior in columbia and i had a 3.6 but i did a lot of extra stuff after school and played lacrosse.

Do graduate schools have min gpas? I always assumed that was just to get into undergrad. Like a friend of mine got into UCSF med school with a 2.8 gpa premed. Granted it was from UCB. I think it is more dependent on your coursework and GRE or mcat. So while I don’t believe there is a “set in stone” gpa that you must have, a high gpa does weigh alot more than GRE it shows that you can work hard and follow the course work.

maybe you should work for a couple years and get some experience to snazzy up that application =D

This is IMPOSSIBLE to answer. Departments are usually the ones making admission decisions in grad school and the minimum GPA is normally something low (like 3.0 or 3.3). For top schools the average GPA is likely much higher than their posted minimum, but again, it depends on the program/department. Also, extracurriculars RARELY matter for grad school unless they’re in your field. Most programs could care less that you played lacrosse and much rather see research experience or other academic related activities. If you tell me what your major is I may be able to give you a “real” answer

How much does a high GRE score (1580) make up for a poor GPA (~2.9 overall, 3.3 in the last two years) when applying to high-end graduate schools like Harvard and Columbia?
